This happened around 2009. I still have a hard time believing it happened, but it did. It occurred during a very difficult moment in my life, when one chapter was closing and new alternatives had to be explored.
I used to hike the Suffern-Bear Mountain trail near New York City to escape from work-related stress. There was a tree that had a horizontal branch, perfect for hanging and stretching your body before the hike. For approximately five or six years, beginning in 2003, I used to stretch by hanging from this specific branch before beginning the hike during the weekends. Suddenly, on this day, when all my problems were at their peak, the branch broke when I tried to hang from it. After 5-6 years of doing it. An immediate thought was placed inside my mind: “This period of your life has broken.” And it did: Shortly thereafter I left NYC looking for something very different.
Now, here comes the weirdest part. I had a girlfriend who lived in Long Island. I went to visit her the next day after the tree branch broke. Suddenly, walking the streets near her house with her dog, out of the blue, she popped out the following words: “Ah, the tree branch broke…”
I almost fell backward. My girlfriend had absolutely no idea that I was hanging from that branch when it had broken. I never told her anything about it. The words just came out of her mouth naturally, as if an extraneous force had placed them inside her brain without her conscious awareness. I looked at her completely dumbfounded… I was so shocked that I didn’t even say anything. I still have a hard time believing that this happened, but it did, contrary to all logical possibilities.
